[Nintendo Switch] Review – even if Tempest

even if Tempest, released on 9th June, is Voltage’s first console exclusive otome game with full voice acting. It had a simultaneous Japanese and Global release, with English localisation. However, it is a digital exclusive title with no physical release.

It tells the story of Anastasia Lynzel, a girl who is fated to be in a time loop of death and despair, using her ability to rewind time after her death to exact revenge on those who have wronged her.

This review will attempt to be spoiler-free as possible. I recommend playing this game as blind as possible, but if you would like to read my thoughts on the game plus my recommendations and warnings, feel free to skip to my “final thoughts” segment of the review.

So let’s dive into the review.

[PC] Review – Nekopara -Catboys Paradise-

From NEKO WORKs, the studio that brought you the Nekopara series, comes a catboy only spin-off “Nekopara -Catboys Paradise-“. What was originally joked about on one fateful April Fools day in 2019 has become realty on 16th July, 2021, releasing simultaneously worldwide in multiple languages for PC and mobile devices… all for the slim price of $0.00 (basically it was free)

–The April Fools Joke in question

Like many other catboy connoisseurs I dipped my feets in playing this game, so does it live up to the hype?

[Mobile] Review – Romance Detective Game “Tears of Themis” (Closed Beta)

After 10 beautiful days, the Tears of Themis closed beta testing has come to an end. I and a good handful players (possibly capped at around 20,00 players) around the world got a sneak peek in the curious world of Tears of Themis. I spent a good time playing it religiously daily, even to the point of abandoning my responsibilities lol. Now that I am suffering from Tears of Themis withdrawals, I feel that now would be a good time to gather my thoughts on the beta and write up a review of sorts.

Note: This review is based on a game build that is still a work in progress. Chances are whatever I note within this review may be changed in the official release.

Double Note: miHoYo has reached out to me, however for transparency sake I would like to declare that I am writing from the heart, whatever I write is my opinion in this post. I will also respect miHoYo’s wishes to not discuss plotlines as not only does it spoil the fun but after playing this blindly myself I feel that it is best played with little to no information beforehand as this game is sort of a mystery/suspense and divulging on plotlines would really take away the raw feelings you would feel if you played this blindly.

[Drama CD] Review – “Ore-sama Residence: Arisugawa vs Saionji – Vol. 1 (Arisugawa SIDE)”

Back in 2018 I did a review for Ore-sama Residence: Vol. 1 Fuji Saionji because it had my fav voice actor Shunsuke Takeuchi (so I only jumped into this series for him, I forgot to buy the first introductory Drama CD that explained everything lol). Now back in March 2020 I got an email request to review the rest of the Drama CD series… now there’s a lot of drama CDs in this series which would prolly rack up a lot of money to buy all of them but I’m going to try to manage to cover at least the bare minimum. These drama CDs don’t come cheap y’know, but this is all for the sake of making content for this blog lol.

There are about 4 “seasons” that make up the Ore-sama Residence series. The first batch of Drama CDs focused on the elite Saionji family, the second batch which I will be reviewing this time around focuses on the rival elite family Arisugawa and also marriage? lol. Anyway, enough chit chat let’s jump in.

[Otome Watch] Toraware no Palm Refrain For Nintendo Switch Overview

Toraware no Palm Refrain is being ported from mobile devices to the Nintendo Switch on 12th March, 2020. The first episode of Refrain was originally released on mobile devices back in December, 2018 and ending in early 2019, making this about a year in the making to be ported to the Switch.

Refrain, like the original game that was port to the Switch, will have localised Chinese (simplified and traditional) text as well as Japanese text option. No word on English localisation.

*Some of the overview take from the official website is kind of a copy and past from the Toraware no Palm for Nintendo Switch overview. I will also be using images and translating info from that website. So forgive me if I copy and paste from myself lol.

[Mobile] Quick look at… World End Heroes

World End Heroes first released on November 13th, 2018 and was made by Square Enix who is now infamous in my books for making the most dull and boring mobile games catered to females. It was first announced on 26th of July, just about a week after the release of Square Enix’s other female oriented game “Idol Fantasy“, with a “teaser” video though I wouldn’t call it a teaser video, as Square Enix puts it it’s a “voice and sound video” because that’s how they want to advertise it.

Instead of revealing information of what kind of game this will be, Square Enix focused mainly on announcing the voice actors with the teaser video as well as the official website having a list of very popular and iconic voice actors–and this website would stay unchanged for a couple more months, with nothing much to let on what kind of game it is beside the voice actors that will appear in it. Clearly, Square Enix only wanted to focus on gaining hype through casting famous voice actors as well as popular stage actors rather than the content of game itself, but clearly it worked getting the public interested in it as 250,000+ people pre-registered for the game without knowing much about the gameplay. Hell, they didn’t even release a video of what the gameplay is like until 1 whole day before the game would release and even then that video remained vague and short. It really shows you how confident Square Enix was with their upcoming game’s gameplay.

If you would like to read my thoughts on Square Enix’s other female oriented titles check my review on Idol Fantasy and my twitter moment on Kimi to Kiri no Labyrinth (with the latter being a glorious dumpster fire.

It’s not required reading but it would help with reading my review as I’ve left out some stuff in this review as I’ve touched upon them in my live tweets while playing World End Heroes, you can check out a compilation of those tweets in my Twitter Moment:

Otherwise please enjoy my (probably short and definitely biased) review.

[Otome Watch – Special] Announcement – “Toraware no Palm -Refrain-“

Today marks the first day of Tokyo Game Show 2018, an event that showcases new and upcoming games to the Japanese public. Companies like Sega and Capcom will be at this event with Capcom announcing the next instalment for the Toraware no Palm series: ‘Toraware no Palm -Refrain”. It’s been about 2 years since the game’s first release and has been a while since I posted about it considering there was nothing really big to post about… until now.

I’ll be using information gathered from the official website for Toraware no Palm -Refrain- as well as a Dengeki Girl’sStyle Online article. I’ll be using images from the official website. Check both links out if you want some more information.

[Mobile] A very quick look at… Dynamic Chord Jam&Join!!!!

Dynamic Chord Jam&Join!!! was released on 9th of August 2018. It’s a mobile game for the franchise “Dynamic Chord” and was produced by ASGARD and Honeybee. It is also a slapped together quick cash grab using A3’s template to hopefully hone in the success of the winning formula of tap-tap games (E.G. Ensemble Stars, A3!) and get Moneybee & ASGARD some big cash from Dynamic Cord’s desperate fans.

Now I may be being too harsh on this with these accusations but goddamn… It was so hard for me to play this game without being annoyed or unnerved at how much of a ripoff this is. I didn’t want to take too much time making an in-depth video on this so I just recorded and gathered some clips and put it into a twitter moment. Have fun:

[Mobile] Review – Otome Yuusha (オトメ勇者)

Otome Yusha (オトメ勇者) released back in December 16, 2017 and because I was overseas when this happened I only started playing it around January this year. So after fiddling around with it for about a month I decided it was about time to review this mobile game.

I also wrote a previous post on Otome Yusha where I gathered information from the website before it was released and speculated what the gameplay would be like. I also translated character profiles so check it out here.

[Mobile] Quick look at… LibraryCross∞ – Mini Review

LibraryCross∞ is Otomate’s latest mobile game. It was developed with the help of Wright Flyer Studios and had been delayed for quite a bit until now… though you’ll never guess why it had been delayed until I reveal it later into this review. The mobile game centers around a group of strangers finding themselves trapped inside a library. It is also a crossover of a select few Otomate games, where the heroine would explore their worlds by jumping into a book.

Otomate has also planned for an anime to be made in the future (of course they are), which may mean that we’ll see Otomate characters crossover in anime form too–which won’t get weird whatsoever when there might be characters with the same voice actor talking in the same scene (just kidding, I’ve yet to see characters with the same voice interact in the game).

This review is gonna be mighty quick and messy because….. yeesh, I just can’t bring myself to play it anymore but I also feel like I should talk about it on this blog. Fair warning, this review might be biased because it’s heavily based on my opinion. So if you don’t want to be swayed by my opinion and you want to give this game the benefit of the doubt, I’d suggest trying it out and form an opinion by yourself.
