It’s 2023 2024 y’all and you know what that means? More josei-muke games to be released! (totally did not copy and past last years intro [yes i did])
As always I will try my best to find and record any game release info I come across. There is no guarantee that I will get to cover all the games but if you do know of any titles I missed please tell me in the comments below and I will add it to the list!
I used to use sources such as cool-b and otomelab but they barely updated in over a year so I’m just out here free falling lol. Nintendo’s Otome Game Feature Page is probably the best place to get your info of upcoming otome games for the Switch.
Any further information on each game such as staff credits is taken from VNDB (Visual Novel DataBase), it is a great website to get information on any kind of visual novel so please check it out.
I will update this post whenever I can.

An otome game based on a light novel that shares the same name published by B’s Log light novel branch. Though it is being described as a ‘josei-muke romance simulation game’. It may also be download-only, who knows.
While also having the canon route with Aqua (Aquasteed? idk these names are weird), there will also be a “what if” route with a branching path away from the canon story.
The story is that the protagonist (who is voiced in this game) is isekai’d into an otome game that she was playing and reincarnated into the villainess Tiara-Rose whose fiance is the crown prince of Lapis Lazuli Kingdom (who the true heroine is supposed to end up with). The protag is told to break off her engagement only to have another crown prince, Aquasteed of Marine Forest, from a neighboring country to propose to her!
Obviously for the light novel, Aqua is the canon ending for the protag but it seems like this otome game for the Switch may allow you to go after the prince of Lapis Lazuli kingdom.

The story is set in a similar universe as “Beastmaster and Prince”, in this story the heroine is a (forced) shut-in but kind-hearted princess who has animals as friends. One day her uncle appears before her in her secluded tower announcing he killed the King and Queen and hands her a sword to unalive herself.
Almost going through with the order, her animal friends stepped in to attack her uncle to save her as they escape. Somewhere along the animal friends were granted the power to be transformed into humans (I can’t remember lol).

Synopsis:
The protagonist is a teenage girl (Tamaki) who revisits a small village she remembers from her childhood and gets caught up in her family’s history and the supernatural dangers surrounding it.
While walking along the hillsides waiting for the person who her grandmother sent to fetch Tamaki to the village, Tamaki comes across a small, white round object which has sticks for limbs and can talk.
It runs off soon after with Tamaki chasing after it. Soon Tamaki finds herself in a place where “it does not feel like the world I came from.” She gets attacked by three slime creatures, and a mysterious man comes charging in to save her by clamping his hands around her body and mouth then telling her to be quiet.
After the young man (Takuma) saves her he walks her to the village where her grandmother is staying. Soon after her arrival she meets with her grandmother. It’s later explained that she has to continue the role of ancestor princess (Tamayori), to seal the sword Onikirimaru with the help of her five guardians.

Teased at the end of Hakuouki’s 15th Anniversary promo movie, it seems to tease a possible prequel before Hakuouki taking place decades before the events of the main storyline where it’ll explore the beginnings of ‘Ochimizu‘, the elixer used in the main storyline that turns the guys into vampires/onis (idk I didn’t play Hakuouki).

The premise is that heroine Anju, an aspiring artist, was captured by the street art of a fellow collage student 2 years ago. Current day her once single mother is remarrying another man and turns out the boy from 2 years ago will be her new brother. They’re given a key to a condominium where they will live together as family… or so you would think (of course the oniichan stuff will come creeping back). At least there are 3 romanceable other guys? I think? I hope lol. Anju once thought she was capable with Japanese art but when comparing herself to her new oniichan she realises the limit of her ability.

SideKicks! beyond | 2025
PS Vita game SideKicks!, set in same universe as BUSTAFELLOWS, finally gets a Switch and mobile port!
In this version the will be additional main episodes and certain BUSTAFELLOWS characters may make a cameo appearance. Crossover episodes are newly recorded.
SideKicks! takes place in a fictional city in California, USA called Sakrada. There, the police department has a Special Investigations Division made up of people from different fields called “Sidekicks”. The protagonist, Inori, is eventually scouted into this group after she awakened to an ability where she can see glimpses into the future in her dreams.
Similar to BUSTAFELLOWS, the game also has chapter formats as if it was episodic with teases/preview for the next chapter/episode at the end of the chapter.

This is where I put down my thoughts about the upcoming year’s release and trends
I don’t know what to say in this corner for this year lol. I guess I could repeat what I said in 2023’s end of year recap about the state of commercial otome games coming out of Japan and it’s localisations.
2023 proved to be rather successful for localisations, to be precise Japanese otome games released on the same day as their localisation which is a great trend that I would like to see more of 😳
Otome games of 2024 seem to be expanding with more companies popping up to make console otome games. I hope this puts some pressure on Otomate to try something new with it’s titles as competitors pop up, especially when LicoBiTs (made up of ex-Otomate employees) are changing it up with live2D character sprites for their upcoming 2024 title “Utakata no Uchronia”.
It’s also pleasing to see that Konami has opened their eyes and ported all of their previous Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side games to the Switch, a modern console, and in HD! I guess Konami realised that Tokimemo Girl’s Side is still an untapped landmine of money–but unfortunately they’ll only release the HD ports digitally and not physically. Kinda sadge in my humble opinion. But I’ll take what I can get.
Anyway, that’s about it for me talking on my soap box about otome games.

Yeah those games are forever going to be in the “To Be Announced/No release date yet” 😭
I hope some of them, especially the localised versions will release in 2024!
