[Monthly Overview] May 2019 Overview

Nintendo Switch

Hanayaka Nari, Waga Ichizoku – Modern Nostalgia – 16th May – Otomate

Private Academy VerRose ~The Rose of Versailles Re*Imagination~ – 23rd May – Otomate

Beast Master and Prince – Flower & Snow – 30th May – Otomate

May seems to be the month of Otomate considering this month’s line-up. Maybe this is what the future will look like with every month being monopolised with Otomate ports and etc. A dystopian future indeed (I’m joking). Though tbh, next month is also an Otomate ruled month 😂

Anyway, quick heads up that I’ll be overseas this month and prolly won’t be back until mid-late June. Where I’m going I prolly won’t get my hands on the internet so hopefully I release at least one more post this month, something that I’ve been meaning to do for a while.

Good news is that during this overseas trip I’ll be going to Japan for the first time in my life 😩 Hopefully I’ll get some internet time to do some posts about my Japan trip. Though kinda anxious about Japan because I have no idea how to move around and live up the tourist life lol, hopefully it’ll be a stress free trip. If any of y’all got some recommended places to visit just write it down in the comments (thanks in advance).

So let’s rundown on what is releasing this month, shall we?

Hanayaka Nari, Waga Ichizoku – Modern Nostalgia is a port to the Nintendo Switch of a PS Vita port with the same name. There’s not much going on in terms of enhancements or additions to differentiate it between the PS Vita port other than the game is in 720p/HD in the Switch version? The game includes unique gameplay compared to Otomate’s other otoge that includes character stats, planning out weekly schedules as well as walking around in a 2.5D world interacting with characters and taking up quests (you can also decorate your room). Oh and you also get to romance 6 brothers but whatever.

Private Academy VerRose ~The Rose of Versailles Re*Imagination~ is a new original game by Otomate. The game is made to commemorate The Rose of Versailles anniversary, you could say this takes place in an “alternative universe” where The Rose of Versailles is a manga in the game’s universe but the characters in this game are inspired by characters in the real The Rose of Versailles. But honestly it’s just confusing. You play as an original character who is named after Oscar from The Rose of Versailles because her mother is a huge fan, you can romance the guys as well as a gal named Nozomi who is kinda the Oscar equivalent in this game’s universe. The common route is split into two versions that focuses on certain characters depending on your choice. There is also a “coupling system” that I guess not only couples the heroine with the guy of your choice but also blooms a relationship between the side characters… kinda confusing I know but I guess it’s better to see it in action than on paper. There is also a secret character voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga which I appreciate is being hidden in a silhouette. Thanks for not spoiling the secret character for once, Otomate. Heroine is also voiced btw.

Beast Master and Prince – Flower & Snow is a port to the Nintendo Switch of a PS Vita port with the same name. Both this port and the PS Vita port includes both the original Beast Master and Prince game plus the fandisc as well as extra contents such as another story which is adaptation of a drama CD into visual novel form. No word on whether there is any additions or enhancements for the Switch version though.

That’s about it. Hopefully I can schedule June’s overview 😂 I’m thinking about picking up Private Academy VerRose when I’m in Japan, it looks pretty cute and interesting with the heroine being a bit of an otaku which might be fun. Hanayaka Nari, Waga Ichizoku is also on my list but I hope it’s a bit cheap when I get to Japan (wishful thinking I know). Hopefully I remember to pick up other games that have been on my “to buy (cheaply)” list lol.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I recommend getting a train app like HyperDia if you need to navigate train lines! Super helpful. Asakusa is a very pretty place to visit! I can’t stop laughing at Beastmaster and Prince on the list because I still have the Vita one I’ve yet to properly play…wonder what Otomate Party has in store, too. Enjoy your trip when it rolls around! \o/
