[Otomate×Nintendo Switch] Otomate announces its plans for the Nintendo Switch

On the 10th May, 2018, Otomate made 12 game announcements in this month’s issue of Dengeki Girl’s Style as well as publishing tweets on their official twitter relating to their switch to the Nintendo Switch (yeah I know a lot of people made the same pun but bear with me here). The game announcements included ports of previous PS Vita/PS4 games to the Nintendo Switch as well as exclusive Switch games in development as we speak. This could open a new door for Otomate’s games being on a hybrid console that allows you to play on the go or at home on the TV, that’s if this move is successful with Otomate’s current consumers (some, if not many, of whom may not even have the Nintendo Switch at this point in time).

I’ll go through the titles announced, giving my thoughts and theories. I’ll try to update this post once I get my hands on this months issue of Deneki Girl’s Style, but for now I’ll be writing on what I’ve heard and what Otomate has released on their twitter account.

Announced Titles

⚠️I’ll be adding some of my thoughts about each game title, it’ll mostly be just my opinion that is formed by existing facts so don’t take it as the ‘word of god’ or anything. I’m just theorizing for the most part.⚠️

Hakuouki Shinkai Fuukaden

banner_hakuoki

Hakuouki Shinkai Fuukaden was originally a PS4 game that was a port for 2 Hakuouki Shinkai  PS Vita games–rolling them into one PS4 game, which is now being ported to the Nintendo Switch. I’m not sure what Otomate is thinking, considering how most of their PS4 ports didn’t have good enough sales which then warranted to them stopping production of PS4 ports + new titles for PS4 all together. But I guess any Hakuouki crazed fan would buy all of the versions this game comes in, so maybe they’re banking on that.

is 6th of September, 2018. Official website can be found here.

Code:Realize ~Saikou no Hanataba~

banner_code

Code:Realize ~Saikou no Hanataba~ is yet another PS4 port to the Nintendo Switch. This game included the original Code:Realize game and it’s first fandisc (not to be confused with the Christmas themed second fandisc). This one also has me boggled as to why Otomate wanted this game to be ported to the switch as well when it didn’t go down well last time with the PS4, but I guess Code:Realize is also a reliable cash cow like Hakuouki so I guess it was only natural for them to be announced first (y’know, instead of announcing a Switch port of the PS4 port of Shinobi, Koi Utsutsu and Diabolik Lovers).

Release Date is 13th of September, 2018. Official Website can be found here.

Nil Admirari no Tenbin – Irodori Nadeshiko

banner_nil

Nil Admirari no Tenbin – Irodori Nadeshiko is a Nintendo Switch exclusive port of the original Nil Admirari and its fandisc. Otomate promises that this port will also include some additional new content. I have a sneaking suspicion that they planned this port for the PS4 before they realised porting to the PS4 wasn’t profitable, but I have nothing to back up my claim so it’s just a theory for now. But hey, seeing Satoi’s art on the big screen might be worth it.

Release date is slated for some time in 2018. Official Website can be found here.

Cendrillon palikA

banner_palika

Cendrillon palikA will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive game… but hang on, wasn’t it 8 months ago or so when Otomate announced this title at Otomate Party that they said it was gonna be on the PS Vita…?

cendrillon palikA

Yes. Yes it was.

I don’t know about the timeline but I checked my B’s Log magazines and according to my April and January issues, this game was listed as “unknown”/”to be advised” when you check what system it will be on. I don’t have a December issue of B’s Log or anything earlier than that so it makes me wonder the timeline of Otomate going to Nintendo to get their games on the Switch and when did they decide to make Cendrillon palikA a Nintendo Switch Exclusive. You also gotta wonder if ceasing ports to the PS4 had anything to do with this because that was announced in February 26th when they stopped developing PS4 ports for Kurenai no Homura and Variable Barricade. So big giant thinking emoji right here on this conspiracy theory.

Release date is slated for some time in 2018. Official Website can be found here.

Shiritsu Verbara Gakuen ~Versailles no Bara Re*imagination~

banner_berubara

Shiritsu Verbara Gakuen ~Versailles no Bara Re*imagination~ will also be a Nintendo Switch exclusive (I’m guessing). It’ll be a re-imagining of the well-known manga The Rose of Versailles–also known as Lady Oscar, which presumably now takes place in a high school setting. I’ve heard it’ll get a movie, so I’m not sure if this movie will be an adaptation of the game or the game will be an adaptation of the movie. Unlike Cendrillon palikA, this game didn’t have a definite console it was supposed to release on when it was initially announced because I pressume they were still planning out what to do with the game.

No set release date as of yet but they are developing it at the same time as the movie. No website available either at this time.

Norn9 LOFN

banner_norn

Norn9 LOFN might be Nintendo Switch exclusive, Otomate twitter account was pretty vague on the next 4 upcoming titles below. I have no idea what it might be, like, what does LOFN stand for? Lots Of Fun Now? Legally Obliged For Nintendo? Actually the last one makes a little bit of sense. My theories for this game is that it could either be a port of the Norn9 games (such as the original/PS Vita port of the first game, the fandisc Norn9 Last Era and that other game called Norn9 Act Tune) or a completely new Norn9 title. I feel like it’ll be a port though, but hey, prove me wrong.

No set release date as of yet but they are developing it at the same time as the movie. No website available either at this time.

Amnesia

banner_amnesia

Amnesia will also be ported to the Nintedo Switch. Question is, which or how many Amnesia games will they port? Will they roll all the amnesia games into one game for the switch or will they just port the original game? Who knows but hell, if there’s a console/system that doesn’t have Amnesia then it will by the time I finish this sentence.

No set release date as of yet but they are developing it at the same time as the movie. No website available either at this time.

Reine des fleurs

banner_reinedes

Reine des fleurs is also getting a port which is surprising considering I thought this game was given mediocre reviews and is prolly not a popular game compared to the other IPs Otomate has. But it’ll be nice to see Kagerou’s artwork on a TV in a nice resolution.

No set release date as of yet but they are developing it at the same time as the movie. No website available either at this time.

Sengoku Night Blood

banner_senbura

Sengoku Night Blood is going to be ported to the Nintendo Switch…. wait what? This is a mobile game that features gachas and mind numbing auto-battles with guest characters coming out of the wazoo only to disappear after an event is over, so why is it getting a port? I have a feeling only the visual novel parts of the mobile game will be ported but damn…. I really hope they don’t port Dance Trips too because the visual novel part wasn’t even its strong point. The official twitter account for Sengoku Night Blood said they’ll release more information in due time so I guess we gotta wait to see what they have planned.

Bilshana Senki ~Genpeiden~

banner_bilshana

Bilshana Senki ~Genpeiden~ is a totally new title from Otomate that will possibly be Nintendo Switch exclusive. It’ll be developed by RED Entertainment (also made Chouchou Jiken Rhapsodic and Juuza Engi ~Engetsu Sangokuden~ together with Otomate), directed by Ai Itou (Director of Nightshade/Hyakka Hyakurou Sengoku Ninpou-chou as well as Kenka Banchou Otome) and character design by Kouji Haneda(?).

LoverPretend

banner_lover

LoverPretend is another new title by Otomate that may become a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Not much is known about it other than it was produced by Ninomae Joe who directed other Otomate games such as Kaminaru Kimi toNatsuzora no Monologue as well as directing the Code:Realize and its first fandisc (not to be confused with its second fandisc with a Christmas theme).

New Hakuouki Title

banner_hakuoki_2

Finally, the last announcement was a brand new Hakuouki game in the works for Nintendo Switch. Ya gotta start and close with a Hakuouki game, don’t ya, Otomate? Y’all just couldn’t resist, huh? I would’ve thought you all ran out of ideas for new Hakuouki games but seems like you’re still coming at us with Hakuouki games. Just… wow.

Didn’t think you had it in ya, Otomate.

No set release date as of yet but they are developing it at the same time as the movie. No website available either at this time.

That’s all the announcements for now. Otomate seems to hint that this might be the last of it, that maybe there will be more titles to announce for the Switch. So I guess we’ll have to see how things will turn out.

There will be an Otomate Party on September 8th~9th, so hopefully we’ll see more information released as well as maybe some more announcements for games. Who knows, maybe they’ll still announce PS Vita games (maybe). Considering the lineup for this years Otomate Party I hope they announce a new Psychedelica game. Gotta get my cry on.

Originally I was going to write the pros and cons between Nintendo Switch and the Playstation Vita but it seems like it would bloat this post (it was hitting 3,000 words and I was nowhere near finished going through the pros and cons). So to make it more easier to read I’ll make the two sections into separate posts. You can read it here.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I just saw the announcement like an hour ago and I guess I’m just kind of befuddled? So forgive me if I don’t make much sense or if this comment is ridiculously long LOL

    I saw they removed the Vita console for Cendrillon in like January I think as well which confused me cus I remembered it being announced at otomate party for Vita and I thought they were going to pull a Karin Ent and move it to mobile. I guess I’m much happier with a move to Switch for otome games over a move to mobile so there’s that lol. I don’t know why but I really didn’t think they’d make the move to Switch haha so this announcement caught me by total surprise. Or maybe that was just denial talking? LOL I guess if this all pans out we’ll see ports of lots of Switch Versions of games in the future? ^q^;;

Ngl I have no clue anymore what’s going on with Hakuouki or Norn9 or anything lmao like how many Hakuouki games are there now? Lmao how many times have they been repackaged? And now a NEW game for Switch??? Hahaha whatever. It’s probably a smart move on their part though to put their really popular series on the Switch as that’ll generate more interest for the console. I’ll admit, I’ve been eyeing the Switch myself for a while now, but haven’t bought it because the library isn’t extensive and I like to wait a bit I guess before I get a new console. If all goes well and more otoge developers make the move to Switch then I’ll probably bite the bullet and get myself one.

Also, why Sengoku Nightblood. Sigh I see some of the logic in the titles they chose and then no logic in the others lol. Ahh well, at the very least it’ll be interesting to see how this all turns out in the end lol

    1. I feel the same way and I too have been side glancing at the Switch thinking of getting it (I just wanna play Bayonetta 1 & 2 on a console that runs it well lol) so this news is probably making me lean more into getting it but not right away because who knows what Nintendo will announce next month at E3 (I swear to god if they announce another variant of the switch calling it “New SwitchU” or something I’m gonna bust a vein lol).
Anyway, the console is barely a year old so its understandable that its library is sparse right now, but hopefully this Otomate thing pulls through because I heard its easier to get Japanese games digitally on the Switch than on the PS Vita.

      1. Lol yeah I expect it’s library to grow in the future which is why I’ve been waiting and also because I’m hoping maybe if I wait a bit they’ll work out any kinks that come with a new console launch… but Jesus Christ if they announce another variant I might have an aneurysm lol. Their naming scheme isn’t the best, to say the least. ^q^;;; I’m kinda hoping Otomate ends up pulling through too. Although I love my Vita I think being able to move between the big screen or on the go for otome games would be perfect. Like I said, Switch >>>>> Mobile any day for me lmao

  2. I didn’t like this news ><
I was trying to get a Vita, but now I'm not sure anymore.
Otomate tried to release otoges for PS4 and failed. Let's see what will happen with Nintendo Switch.
I don't own one bc is suuuuuuuuuper expensive here.
    If Otomate is really going to release games only for Switch now, no more otoges for me ;;
I'm tired of Hakuouki already, Otomate. Pls, stop!! xD

    1. Yeah probably just safe to wait and see. The switch console is new so obviously it’s expensive but prolly best to wait a year or two before switching to a switch, no need to rush into buying just yet. Hopefully the PS Vita is especially cheap now, and who knows if Otomate will port all of its Vita library to the Switch so maybe safe to get a Vita for now? It’s up to you.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Yeah, I’m going to wait. In the meanwhile I’ll get a Vita.
I like to play other games besides otoges, so it won’t be so bad ^^
